Iconic and well-preserved historic mansions span the river bends along the Great River Road beside the Mississippi River in Louisiana’s Plantation Country. Between Baton Route and New Orleans lies the 100-mi traverse known as Plantation Alley. Join Daniel’s on this Spring Road Trip along Plantation Alley with visits to Oak Alley Plantation with its Greek Revival columns and an impressive oak canopy approach; Houmas House, the Crown Jewel of Louisiana’s River Road that was one of the largest sugar plantations in the country; Rosewood Plantation, one of the most documented and intact plantation complexes in the Southern US; and Greenwood Plantation, considered one of the South’s finest example of classic colonial with its 28 columns, and where many artifacts from the movies filmed there are on display (North & South.) These plantations are steeped in history and tell the story of the culture of their era. Step back in time and get a glimpse of plantation life for the wealthy plantation owners and the many slaves who lived there offering lessons on the realities of slave labor.
