DAY TRIP Discovering the World of Jesus Exhibition
Join Daniel’s as we travel to Atlanta to learn how the past and the present are connected. Step back 2,000 years at the Discovering the World of Jesus Exhibition – in Atlanta for a limited engagement at Pullman Yards. Relive the moments that shaped history with hundreds of priceless artifacts from the Holy Land, digital reconstructions, aerial photography, and documentary films. The state-of-the-art technologies will lead you on an inspirational and historical pilgrimage through the land and sites where Christ lived, taught, and performed His miracles. The highlight of the exhibition is the James (Yaakov) Ossuary, a first-century stone box found in Jerusalem that held the bones of James, the son of Joseph and brother of Jesus. Considered the most significant item ever discovered from the time of Christ, the James Ossuary is the only archaeological item that can be directly attributed to Jesus’ family. Another highlight of our day is a visit to The Carlos Museum at Emory University where we will explore the art and history of world cultures. It is one of the oldest museums in Georgia with collections dating back to 1876. The Museum boasts the largest collection of Ancient Egyptian, Nubian, and Near Eastern antiquities on the East Coast. The core of the collection includes an extensive collection of artifacts from Egypt and Mesopotamia, including the oldest Egyptian mummy in the Americas. This day will be an inspiring, educational, and unexpectedly delightful experience that you do not want to miss! We will visit Ponce City Market with an eclectic selection of restaurants to choose from for lunch on your own.
The price of the Day Trip includes roundtrip motorcoach transportation from the Daniel’s Depot in Lula, GA and tickets to the exhibits. Day Trips are non-refundable.
DAY TRIP Gone with the Wind
Our travels take us south as we embark on a journey to discover the foundation of the story and the author of the great novel and move, “‘Gone with the Wind”. Margaret Mitchell, Peggy Marsh to her friends, dubbed her apartment, “The Dump”. Surprisingly, it is in the shabby little apartment in Atlanta on the bottom floor that this petite, yet mighty woman wrote “Gone with the Wind”. A Pulitzer Prize followed. Fame, fortune, and fans, too. Quite the character, she had opinions about how the film portrayed her book and she didn’t much like the attention, but she still responded to every single fan letter. Visit her home in Atlanta where the book was written and learn about Peggy before, during, and after the book, about the movie, and about the film’s premiere in Atlanta. The Road to Tara Museum in Jonesboro, Georgia offers a fascinating look into the famous book, the writer, the era, and the ties to Jonesboro. Explore the exhibits featuring items from the 1939 movie premiere in Atlanta, personal items belonging to Margaret Mitchell, rotating poster gallery, original costume pieces, and international book collection. Visit Stately Oaks Plantation, a plain Greek Revival antebellum home constructed in 1839. The grounds are home to the main house, country store, one-room schoolhouse, cook house, and much more. Jonesboro is the very city where Scarlett had to pay the taxes on Tara. Even though Tara only existed in Margaret Mitchell’s imagination, she placed Tara in Clayton County where she had visited relatives who lived on a large plantation south of Jonesboro. Many of the stories she heard as a child are in the movie. Many believe Stately Oaks was the inspiration for Tara. Explore the home and grounds and enjoy an included lunch in the Bethel One-Room Schoolhouse.
