West Virginia is beautiful anytime of the year, but especially in the Fall! From our lakeside hub, we will spoke out on new adventures throughout West Virginia each day! All aboard for a daytime rail excursion on the New Tygart Flyer in Elkins, WV! This wilderness excursion features mountain grades, an “S” curve tunnel, a high bridge and miles of unspoiled mountain views. Vintage diesel-powered locomotives climb along the cascading Shavers Fork of the Cheat River to the High Falls of Cheat, an 18′ high, 150′ wide waterfall. Enjoy the view aboard a comfortable, climate-controlled passenger train car. The New River carves a deep gorge through southern West Virginia. The New River Gorge Bridge is the longest steel span in the western hemisphere, the third highest bridge in the United States, and it is one of the most photographed places in West Virginia…so we will go see it and take photos too! When we think of WV, we think of coal mines. We will visit a recreated coal camp at Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. Experience what the early working days of mining were like on a tour into a vintage coal mine with a veteran miner as your Guide. Located on a small island in the Ohio River, Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park features a Palladian mansion on the island and a museum of regional history located in Parkersburg, WV. This unique state park is visited by over 40,000 people each year and is accessed by sailing across the river on an authentic sternwheeler riverboat. Once on the island, enjoy a tour of the 1789 mansion and a horse-drawn carriage ride around the beautiful grounds. You will even learn about the ties the island has to Aaron Burr’s military conspiracy dating back to 1805.
